Release dates are now available for the remaining 2012-dated America the Beautiful Five Ounce Silver Bullion Coins to be issued by the United States Mint. These five ounce .999 fine silver coins were authorized under Public Law 110-456 and feature duplicate designs of the America the Beautiful Quarters.
Two out of the five designs to be issued for this year have already been released. The bullion coins featuring El Yunque National Forest went on sale to authorized purchasers on May 21, 2012. This was followed by the second design featuring Chaco Culture National Historical Park, which went on sale June 25, 2012.
The release dates for the remaining three 2012-dated bullion coins are as follows:
- Acadia National Park – July 30, 2012
- Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park – September 10, 2012
- Denali National Park – October 22, 2012
As with previous releases of the bullion series, the US Mint will make the coins available to a small group of authorized purchasers who are able to buy the coins in bulk quantities based on the market value of the silver content plus a fixed mark up. In turn, the authorized purchasers will resell the coins to other bullion dealers, coin dealers, and the public.
The US Mint has indicated that the 2012 America the Beautiful Five Ounce Silver Bullion Coins will be produced to demand. As of July 16, 2012, sales for the first two designs of the year have reached 11,400 (El Yunque) and 5,400 (Chaco Culture). The slow initial pace of sales is a stark contrast to the first two 2011-dated releases which sold out of an initial production quantity of 126,700 coins per design within less than a month.
