For the second time this year, the United States Mint has increased the prices for numismatic gold products following an increase in the underlying price of gold. The US Mint currently offers five different First Spouse Gold Coins in proof or uncirculated versions.
The Mint’s pricing policy for numismatic gold and platinum products allows the adjustment of prices as often as once per week to reflect changes in the underlying values of the metals. Pricing tiers were established at $50 increments for the price of gold and $100 increments for the price of platinum. If the average weekly London Fix prices move into different tiers, the prices for available coins are adjusted accordingly.
The five different First Spouse Gold Coins currently available feature Letitia Tyler, Julia Tyler, Sarah Polk, Margaret Taylor, and Abigail Fillmore. Each coin contains one-half ounce of 24 karat gold.
The price for the proof versions of each coin were increased from $729 to $754 each. The price for the uncirculated versions was increased from $716 to $741 each. This brings prices for these products back to the highest levels on record. Prices were previously at these levels for a period from November 24 to December 16, 2009.
