Silver
As of today, March 1, 2017, the U.S. Mint’s authorized purchasers (APs) have bought 6,342,500 American Eagle silver bullion coins, with 450,000 of those coins reported sold over the course of the past week. This is a step up from the previous week’s figure of 205,000 units sold—and a bright spot in this week’s precious-metals sales report, as most other figures are well down from the previous one.
The Mint reports just 200 of the 2017 America the Beautiful Effigy Mounds National Monument 5-ounce bullion coins sold last week, amounting to 1,000 ounces of silver. (In comparison, the previous week tallied 1,600 coins / 8,000 ounces.) The total reported sold this year is 19,500, for a total of 97,500 ounces of silver.

The value of an ounce of silver is up slightly from last week, having increased by 39 cents from $17.89 to $18.28, according to the London Bullion Market Association. Silver’s average last week, Monday through Friday, was $18.03 per ounce, up 6 cents from the previous week’s average of $17.97.
Gold
Sales of gold bullion coins have dropped for the third week in a row. During the past week, the Mint reported sales of 3,500 ounces of American Eagle gold bullion coins, compared to 5,000 ounces the previous week and 13,500 ounces the week before that. (No sales of 1/2-ounce AGE coins were reported this period.) All told, American Gold Eagles have sold 145,000 ounces in 2017. The Mint reports just 500 American Buffalo 1-ounce gold bullion coins sold last week, down from 3,000 the previous week and 6,500 the week before that; this brings the 2017 total for the category to 47,000 ounces.

The value of an ounce of gold is up by $22.40 from last week, to $1,255.60. Gold’s average last week, Monday through Friday, was $1,241.74, up from the previous week’s average of $1,231.98.
Platinum
The sales total for the 2017 American Eagle one-ounce platinum bullion coins is 20,000 units. Platinum is up $41.00 compared to this time last week, when it was priced at $988.00 per ounce; the value of an ounce of platinum is now at $1,029.00 per ounce. The metal’s average last week, Monday through Friday, was $1,006.00, up from the previous week’s $1,003.60.
