The Perth Mint has released its 2016 Gilded Australian Kangaroo composed of one ounce of 99.99% silver with additional 24-karat gold gilding applied to the central kangaroo motif. Production of this issue, which is available for $86.36 ($66.26 US) each, will be limited to 5,000 coins.
The coin’s reverse features a gold-gilded image of a kangaroo in motion surrounded by a stylized sunburst emanating from the center. Inscribed along the rim of the coin is AUSTRALIAN KANGAROO, 1 OZ 9999 SILVER, 2016, and the Perth Mint’s “P” mint mark.
The obverse carries Ian Rank-Broadley’s effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, with the inscriptions ELIZABETH II, AUSTRALIA, and 1 DOLLAR included along the rim of the coin.
Dr. Stuart Devlin served as the designer for this issue, which measures 40.60 mm in diameter and 4 mm thick.
