The latest statistics released by the Perth Mint of Australia show mixed results for bullion sales during March 2014. Sales for gold saw a decline compared to the year ago period, while silver recorded gains.
Perth Mint sales of gold as coins and minted products totaled 30,177 troy ounces during March. This was down from the prior month when sales were 47,003 ounces and also down from the year ago period when sales were 50,356 ounces.
The latest monthly total actually marks the lowest level since April 2012 when sales had dipped to 17,576 ounces. Weakness in gold bullion sales was also seen for the United States Mint in figures reported earlier this week.
For the first quarter of 2014, Perth Mint gold sales have reached 141,998 troy ounces. This down by 11.3% from the 160,089 ounces sold during the first quarter of 2013.

Perth Mint sales of silver as coins and minted products reached 545,165 troy ounces for March 2014. This figure was up from the previous month when sales were 392,088 ounces and also up from the year ago period when sales were 408,179 ounces.
For the first quarter, silver sales are now 1,849,641 ounces. This is up by 22.9% from the 1,505,042 ounces sold during the first quarter of 2013.
