The Perth Mint of Australia has released their latest statistics on the amount of gold and silver sold as coins and minted products. Sales for both metals declined sharply from the prior month, although gold sales were stronger when compared to the year ago period.
For the month of February, total gold sales reached 47,003 troy ounces. This represented a decline compared to the prior month when sales were 64,818 ounces, but a slight gain compared to the year ago period when sales had reached 44,049 ounces.
For the year to date, gold sales are now 111,821 ounces. This is roughly flat compared to the same period in the prior year when sales had totaled 109,733.

Sales of silver coins and minted products measured 392,088 troy ounces for February 2014. This was down sharply from the strong demand of the prior month when sales had reached 912,388. The figure is also down from the year ago period when sales were 426,319.
Year to date silver sales have reached 1,304,476 ounces. The strong sales in January help put the year to date total 18.93% ahead of the sales from the same period in the prior year.
