The Perth Mint has offered collectors and investors a sneak peek at next year’s bullion and collector coin range. The classic Australian Kangaroo, Kookaburra, and Koala series have been revitalised, featuring beautiful new reverse images of Australia’s iconic wildlife, blending a new look to the 2022-dated releases. The Perth Mint’s schedule of release also includes the third instalment of the Australian Lunar Series, featuring original and superb artistry with this year celebrating the Year of the Tiger, beginning in February 2022.
Kookaburra: A common guest of residential Australian gardens, the kookaburra is the largest member of the kingfisher species. The silver coins with reverse designs created by artist Natasha Muhl will be issued in one-kilo, 10-ounce, and one-ounce weights.
Kangaroo — silver: The Australian kangaroo is a large marsupial endemic to Australia. Identified by its muscular tail, strong back legs, large feet, short fur, and long, pointed ears, the animal has become a much-loved national icon. The silver coins are produced as one-ounce pieces.
Kangaroo — gold: The revised design seen on the gold series coins ranging in weights from 1/10th to one ounce portrays a kangaroo and its joey bounding across a flat, grassy plain with hillocks on the horizon.
The reverse design of the one-kilo coin portrays the classic artistry of a bounding red kangaroo surrounded by rays of sunlight.
Koala: Depicting one of Australia’s most beloved animals, the Australian koala has become synonymous with the Land Down Under. Produced in weights of one kilo and one ounce of pure silver, each coin’s reverse portrays a koala asleep on the bough of a tree amid clusters of aromatic eucalyptus leaves.
Lunar Year — gold: The tiger is the third of 12 animals associated with the ancient Chinese lunar calendar. The design featured on the gold series which ranges from 1/20th-ounce to 10-ounce weights features a majestic tiger standing on a peak with its head turned towards its tail. The fearless animal’s open jaw features razor-sharp canine teeth.
Lunar Year — silver: Those born under the sign of the tiger in 2022, 2010, 1998, 1986, 1974, and each 12th preceding year are said to be natural leaders blessed with courage, charm, and confidence. The design on the silver series minted in weights of 1/2-ounce to 10 kilos focuses on a beautiful tiger cub following its proud and protective parent across a rocky terrain featuring ferns and bamboo.
However, collectors and investors won’t have to wait until next year to begin adding these coins to their collections and portfolios. The Perth Mint has assembled a schedule of releases over the next five months for the various gold, platinum, and silver coins and from sizes beginning at 1/20th-ounce gold to one-kilo silver.
