Perth Mint — Australia: New 2021-dated bullion silver ounce Brumbies released, including high-relief Proof strike two-ounce coins

The Perth Mint has released this year’s 2021-dated silver bullion coins, which are part of the “Australian Horses” series. Launched in 2013, silver bullion coins feature once again, one of the country’s more well-known feral breeds — the extraordinary brumby. A most interesting story of how these exceptional specimens of equine perfection came to inhabit the outback of Australia and why their legend grew into folklore.

Banjo Paterson (1864–1941) is portrayed on Australia’s current 10-dollar banknote along with a brumby horse from the Snowy Mountains region. Supporters and animal conservationists continue their diligent work to re-home Brumbies that have been captured.

Designed by Jennifer McKenna, the reverse side portrays the brumby as a magnificent, unfettered beast, galloping across cliff tops. Included in the design is the inscription AUSTRALIAN BRUMBY shown above the primary design. The Perth Mint’s “P” mintmark is seen to the right of the Brumby with the weight, fineness, and the 2021 year-date placed just under the design. Each coin’s reverse includes a security feature in the form of a micro-laser engraved letter within the design and is only detectable under a magnifying glass. The obverse side includes the Commonwealth effigy of HM Queen Elizabeth II created by Royal Mint engraver Jody Clark and introduced onto Australian coinage this year. The denomination of 1 DOLLAR is placed below the Queen’s likeness.

The Australian Brumby 2021-dated one-ounce silver bullion coins are presented in an acrylic capsule to protect their bullion-quality strike. A second silver high-relief Proof release in the popular Brumby series with a limited mintage of 1,000 pieces is available and presented in an elegant perspex case, accompanied by a certificate of authenticity.
