Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS) has certified the first six dual-dated 1964-2014 Gold Proof Kennedy Half Dollars sold on the opening morning of the American Numismatic Association 2014 Chicago World’s Fair of MoneySM. The first four were each graded PCGS PR70 DCAM, and the other two were graded PCGS PR69 DCAM. PCGS also is receiving submissions of other gold Kennedy proof half dollars purchased by determined buyers.

Hundreds of people lined up outside the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in the Chicago suburb of Rosemont, Illinois, waiting for an opportunity to purchase one of the 500 coins to be sold by the United States Mint. The coins were limited to one per customer, the same limit which will be in place for each day of the five-day ANA convention.
“It is really exciting to see so many collectors interested in purchasing these new coins. My hat is off to the United States Mint for creating the program that has generated so much interest to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Kennedy half dollar. PCGS is happy to have been selected to certify the very first six of the coins sold at the Chicago World’s Fair of Money,” said Don Willis, President of PCGS, a division of Collectors Universe, Inc.

Nick Yadgarov, Callie Hohlfeld, Daniel Yadgarov and Rina Maya, all from the Los Angeles area, were the first people in the blocks-long line, patiently waiting for sales of the gold proof Kennedy half dollars to begin.
They arrived outside the convention center at about 11 pm Monday evening, August 4, and were finally able to make their purchases 12 hours later, just after 11 am, Tuesday morning, August 5. After doing several news media interviews, they submitted their coins at the PCGS booth (#701).
