As reported by CoinWeek in a recent video interview, Shelley Griffiths, life-long member of the American Numismatic Association and senior numismatist at the California-based Alhambra Coin Center will be part of a new television program premiering soon on the National Geographic Channel.
The show will be titled, “I’ll Buy It”, and will feature ACC employees as they attempt to purchase coins, as well as art, antiques, jewelry, and diamonds. The entire process from purchasing, to authenticating and selling the objects they find will be depicted, and will include footage in their offices and on the road as they visit cities across the nation.
Griffiths said that the first episode has already been filmed, featuring her and Malcolm Varner. She is a third-generation coin dealer who has been dealing in coins since the early 1970’s. According to their company’s web site, she has worked for several prominent coin companies, and has been with ACC since 1996, and Varner has owned and operated a rare coin store since the late 1960s , and in 1974 co-founded Alhambra Coin Center with his brother Jay.
This reporter likens this television show’s concept as one-part American Pickers, one-part Pawn Stars, combining the cross-country elements of the former with the family-owned and operated components of the latter.
