The latest news from the coin legislation front comes in the form of a proposal for commemorative coins issued for the National Future Farmers of America Organization. They will celebrate their 85th anniversary in the year 2012 when the proposed coins would be available.
Bills were introduced in the House as H.R. 3464 and the Senate as S. 1553, which seem to be identical versions. Text of the House bill states that up to 100,000 gold coins would be produced and up to 500,000 silver coins. Interestingly, the organization states that they have 507,763 members. The only guidance provided regarding the design of the coins is that they should be emblematic of the organization's 85 year history.
In order for the bill to become law, one version must be passed in both the House and Senate and then signed by the President.
