Today, February 12, 2015, the United States Mint started accepting orders for bags and rolls of circulating quality 2015 Kennedy Half Dollars. These coins were minted at the facilities located at Philadelphia and Denver and have never been placed into circulation.
The available products include two roll sets, containing one 20-coin roll each from the Philadelphia and Denver Mints, and 200-coin bags, containing 100 coins each from the Philadelphia and Denver Mints. The two roll sets are priced at $32.95, while the 200-coin bags are priced at $32.95. Each product includes special packaging which displays the mint mark and face value of the contents.
Starting this year, the Kennedy Half Dollars included within all numismatic products feature the restored 1964 Gilroy Roberts portrait of President John F. Kennedy. Last year, the US Mint had restored the original portrait for use on three special products issued to mark the 50th anniversary of the series. Other numismatic products issued in 2014 had included the modified modern portrait.
The obverse design of the Kennedy Half Dollar contains a portrait of President Kennedy surrounded by inscriptions “Liberty”, “In God We Trust”, and the date. The reverse design by Frank Gasparro is based on the Presidential Seal and features the heraldic eagle with a shield at its breast holding a symbolic olive branch and bundle of 13 arrows. A ring of 50 stars surrounds along with the inscriptions “United States of America” and “Half Dollar”.
The 2015 Kennedy Half Dollar bags and rolls can be ordered online at the US Mint’s online catalog at http://catalog.usmint.gov/ or by phone at 1-888-321-MINT.
