On October 13, 2009, H.R. 621 The Girl Scouts USA Centennial Commemorative Coin Act passed the House of Representatives. The bill had originally been introduced back on January 21, 2009.
If approved, the Act would require the Secretary of the Treasury to mint coins in commemoration of the centennial of the Girl Scouts America. Up to 350,000 silver coins would be issued in 2013. Each coin would have a weight of 26.73, diameter of 1.5 inches, and a composition of 90% silver and 10% copper. The coins would be legal tender with a face value of $1 and considered numismatic items.
The silver dollar's design would be emblematic of the centennial of the Girl Scouts of America. Required inscriptions would include the face value, the year of issue, "Liberty", "In God We Trust", and "E Pluribus Unum". Coins would be minted in both proof and uncirculated versions and issuable between January 1, 2013 and December 31, 2013.
In order to become law, the bill must be passed by the Senate and then signed by the President. Similar bills had been introduced during 2008, however, neither was passed into law.
A Boy Scouts Commemorative coin will be issued in 2010 to mark the organization's centennial.
