2010 Fractional Gold Eagles Available June 10

Fractional Gold EagleThe United States Mint has indicated the availability date for fractional weight 2010 American Gold Eagle bullion coins. Authorized purchasers may begin placing orders for the coins on June 10, 2010. Orders will be subject to the standard allocation process.

As with other bullion coins offered by the US Mint, only a network of authorized purchasers are able to order the coins directly. The authorized purchasers then resell the coins to other bullion dealers, coin dealers, and the public, as well as facilitate a two way market for the coins.

The 201o fractional Gold Eagles will be available in one-half ounce, one-quarter ounce, and one-tenth ounce sizes. Each coin contains its stated weight in gold and carries a different legal tender face value.

Fractional weight American Gold Eagles have been offered by the United States Mint each year since 1986. Last year, the release of the coins was delayed until December 3, 2009. After only one day, sales of 56,000 one-half ounce coins, 58,000 one-quarter ounce coins, and 260,000 one-tenth ounce coins were recorded. This was enough to deplete the majority of the available inventory.

The remaining inventory of 2009 fractional Gold Eagles was offered later in the month and sold out by December 21, 2009. The final recorded sales following roughly two weeks of availability were 110,000 one-half ounce coins, 110,000 one-quarter ounce coins, and 270,000 one-tenth ounce coins.
