(Woodland Hills, California) March 19, 2018 — One of the finest collections of Saint-Gaudens Double Eagle gold coins listed in the PCGS Set Registry, the A&A Saints Collection, will go on auction on eBay starting at 6:00 pm Pacific time March 29 through April 8, 2018. The set includes the finest known 1932 “Saint,” graded MS-66+ and formerly in the famous collections of Dr. Steven Duckor and David Akers.
The seller will donate a portion of the auction proceeds to combat counterfeits in the numismatic marketplace.
“The amazing A&A Saints Collection is ranked as the fourth all-time finest in the PCGS Set Registry with a remarkable weighted grade point average of 65.77 and a GPA with ‘Top Pop’ bonuses of 66.13,” explained Barry Stuppler, president of Woodland Hills, California-based Mint State Gold by Stuppler, who is representing the anonymous seller.
“21 of the collection’s 52 coins are either the finest known or tied for the finest known. 10 of these historic coins previously belonged in the most renowned collections assembled over the decades by the country’s most respected collectors. This is the largest set of its kind ever offered on eBay,” said Stuppler.
In addition to the 1932 Saint, other highlights of the A&A Saints Collection include the 1907 High Relief-Wire Edge, graded MS-67, ex. Harry Bass; 1909-D, MS-67 CAC tied for finest known, ex. Louis E. Eliasberg, Sr. and Duckor collections; 1914, MS-66+ CAC finest known, ex. Duckor; and 1924 MS-68 finest known.
Given the collection’s overall outstanding grade point average, and the historic pedigree of many of the individual coins, Stuppler estimates its value to be more than $7 million. The entire collection can be viewed here.
After the sale is completed, three percent of the sale proceeds will go to nonprofit organizations including the Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles, the ALS Association, and the Anti-Counterfeiting Education Foundation.
“We are honored to partner with Stuppler in the auctioning of the A&A $20 Gold Saint-Gaudens Collection,” said an eBay spokesperson. “Our ability to reach a broad, sophisticated market of 170 million active buyers is the perfect fit for this unique coin collection. We recognize that bidders will go beyond the typical coin collectors, as this is a chance to own a truly one of a kind investment.”
Nicknamed “Saints,” and placed into circulation from 1907 to 1932, the U.S. $20 denomination double eagle gold pieces were exquisitely designed more than a century ago by acclaimed sculptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens at the request of President Teddy Roosevelt.
“The winner of the auction for this collection of America’s most beautiful gold coins will join the ranks of the most respected collectors today,” stated Stuppler, president of the Professional Numismatists Guild and a former president of the American Numismatic Association.
