The Perth Mint of Australia has released limited mintage gold and silver coins for the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil. The football competition will be held from June 12 to July 13, 2014.
The 99.9% pure silver and 99.99% pure gold coins contain original reverse designs which depict a soccer player in an Aboriginal motif. The background features a map of Australia with some color applied around the periphery on the silver coin. An inscription reads “2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil” with the Perth Mint’s “P” mint mark.
The obverse of each coin includes the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Queen Elizabeth II. Inscriptions include the “2012” date and the monetary denomination.
Both coins are Australian legal tender and struck to proof quality. The gold coin has a weight of 0.5 grams, diameter of 11.60 mm, and thickness of .70 mm. The silver coin has a weight of 15.591 grams (0.5 troy ounces of silver), diameter of 36.60 mm, and thickness of 2.30 mm.
The coins are presented in a display case with a souvenir shipper and specially designated numbered Certificate of Authenticity. The gold coin is limited to a mintage of 7,500 pieces, while the silver coin is limited to 10,000.
