The official coin and medal souvenir program for EXPO Milano 2015 was unveiled in its entirety during the World Money Fair in Berlin on the 7th February. The Director of the ambitious project took the opportunity during the Media Forum to expand on the project which will for the first time see an official souvenir medal produced in as many languages as national participants in the international exposition.

The unveiling included as its guest, H.E. Elio Menzione, Italian Ambassador to the Federal Republic of Germany who spoke on the importance of the upcoming world fair which will as its theme, highlight the need for sustainable food and agriculture production and the need to develop the renewable energy to feed and power a planet of more than 7 billion inhabitants. The slogan “FEEDING THE WORLD – ENERGY FOR LIFE” appears on the official souvenir coin / medal.
Ambassador Menzione is presented with a special presentation bronze “super-sized” coin of the official EXPO 2015 souvenir coin by Hans-Henning Gohrum of the World Money Fair.
The Media Forum which is hosted by WMF president Hans-Henning Göhrum and accompanied by honorary WMF president Dr. Albert Beck who were both presented with bronze presentation examples of the official EXPO 2015 medals. The super-sized test coin is 15 centimeters in diameter and is one of the largest coins ever produced.

After the EXPO Milano 2015 video presentation, the organisers announced the first-ever “custom EXPO coin” in which the project involves every participating country to be given the opportunity to produce their own version of the official souvenir coin – with text in their own language. A variation for private companies to issue their own version of the coin has also been developed – making this project one of the largest numismatic programs associated with any previous International or universal exposition.
Examples of the EXPO 2015 souvenir coins in their proposed “coin-card” which includes the Eco-coin, a specially developed metal using only recycled materials exclusively for use with the EXPO coin program – were distributed to those in attendance. A pink-colored precious metal EXPO coin was also introduced on the day. It is dedicated to Women and the worldwide work they are involved in which feeds the planet – the very theme of the EXPO itself.
Organizers of the international exhibition are expecting in excess of 20 million visitors over the six month long event and estimate that more than one billion cyber visitors will log on to the many websites or download smartphone applications. More than 130 countries to date have confirmed their attendance and participation which thus far represents over 80% of the world’s population. The event will be staged in a specially purpose-built site in the exquisite setting of Milan covering over one million square meters and launches on the 1st May 2015 and runs until the 31st October.
