The heart-shaped blank shows a slightly incused pattern of tendrils. In the middle is a stamp-like incuse with the coat of arms of Palau. Above, is the inscription REPUBLIC OF PALAU, the denomination $5, and in the field below, 2018.
The reverse is covered with a complicated pattern of tendrils throughout.
Story
A heart is one of the simplest shapes in the world, and at the same time incredibly difficult to mint. Up to now, minted miniature sculptures like the Shakyamuni Buddha or the Emperor Penguin only featured a high relief on one side, while the reverse was kept flat. With the Silver Heart, the relief now conquers both sides.
This is made possible with smartminting technology. Just how far that has developed shows in the combination of the highest relief with a minimally incused decorative tendril pattern. An incredible minting-technological challenge!
The surface has been treated with a so-called Antique finish, a surface treatment that has proven extremely popular since the 19th century, which makes even the finest details of the coin stand out more plastically.
