The Bank of the People’s Republic of China has released (10th September) new collector’s coins which are in celebration of the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China. With the ousting of the Chinese Republic’s government on the 1st October 1949, which took refuge on the island of Formosa (present-day Taiwan), the People’s Republic of China was proclaimed by its founder Mao Tse Tong (1893–1976). On that day, Mao declared China to be a one-party state governed by the Communist Party of China. The first constitution of the People’s Republic of China was proclaimed in 1954 during the first National People’s Congress, a forum which meets once every five years to oversee the country’s national agenda. After two intervening versions enacted in 1975 and 1978, the current constitution was declared in 1982, which was enacted during the Sixth National People’s Congress.
