The month of October 2011 will include a number of new product releases from the United States Mint, as well as several coin conventions.

The United States Mint has recently scheduled the 2011-P Olympic National Park Five Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coin for release on October 25, 2011. This will be the seventh numismatic release for the large sized silver coins.

Although still not officially scheduled, this month may see the release of the US Mint's 25th Anniversary Silver Eagle Set. The set will include one proof coin from West Point, one uncirculated coin from West Point, one uncirculated coin from San Francisco, one reverse proof coin from Philadelphia, and one bullion coin. A previous press release indicated that the US Mint expected to begin taking orders for the limited mintage sets in late October.

Many collectors are looking forward to the Perth Mint's upcoming numismatic releases for the 2012 Year of the Dragon Silver Coins. The new products on sale October 4, 2011 will include colored versions, gilded versions, gemstone versions, and a typeset collection. Additional information about these coins is provided in this article.

From October 13-15, 2011, the ANA National Money Show will be held in Pittsburgh. Both PCGS and NGC will provide on-site grading and an auction will be conducted by Heritage. Later in the month, the Silver Dollar & Rare Coin Expo will be held in St. Charles, Missouri.

The major coin collecting event for the month of August 2011 will be the ANA World's Fair of Money held in Rosemont, Illinois. The event will include the largest bourse in ANA history with more than 1,200 dealers. Additional highlights include the Museum Showcase, Collector Exhibits, and numerous educational opportunities. Both PCGS and NGC will provide on-site grading, and an auction will be conducted by Stack's Bowers.

The month also includes the latest releases in the Presidential Dollars and America the Beautiful Quarters Programs. The Rutherford B. Hayes Dollar will be released on August 18, with a launch ceremony held the same day in Fremont, Ohio. The Vicksburg National Military Park Quarter will be released on August 29, with a launch ceremony held the next day at the park.

US Mint product releases include numismatic bags and rolls for the newly released coins and the America the Beautiful Quarters Three Coin Set featuring Glacier National Park.

July 2011 U.S. Coin Collecting Calendar

There are fewer U.S. coin collecting events and product releases in July 2011, as the summer months begin. The main highlights for the month at the Summer FUN show held later this week and the next five ounce silver coin released by the United States Mint near the end of the month.

The 5th annual summer convention for the Florida United Numismatists (FUN) will be held in Orlando, Florida from July 7-9. The convention is open to the public from 10:00 AM to 6:30 PM (Thursday and Friday) and 10:00 AM to 5:30 PM (Saturday) with free admission. Heritage will conduct a US Coin Auction and several educational seminars are scheduled.

Later in the month from July 20-23, PCGS will hold a members only show at the Venetian. Onsite grading will be available.

After a few busy months, the United States Mint will release only three numismatic products during the month. This will include the next Presidential $1 Coin and First Spouse Medal Set and the next America the Beautiful Three Coin Set. The one major product will be the fifth numismatic version of the America the Beautiful Five Ounce Silver Coins featuring Mount Hood National Park.

June 2011 Coin Collecting Calendar

This month's coin collecting calendar includes fewer numismatic product releases from the United States Mint, but two major shows. The eighth coin in the America the Beautiful Quarters series will be released into circulation.

The US Mint will release the numismatic version of the Yosemite National Park Five Ounce Silver Coin on June 9, 2011. This follows the quick sell outs for the prior two releases. Once again, the coins will be limited to one per household and priced at $279.95.

Later in the month, the Julia Grant First Spouse Gold Coin will go on sale. The maximum mintage is expected to be 15,000 across proof and uncirculated versions and pricing will be established based on the average price of gold in the week leading up the release.

The Long Beach Coin & Collectibles Expo will be held from June 2-4, with an auction conducted by Heritage. The Whitman Coin & Collectibles Expo will be held from June 16-19 with an auction conducted by Stack's Bowers Galleries.

On June 13, the Olympic National Park Quarter will be released into circulation. This design features a Roosevelt elk stepping onto a gravel river bar of the Hoh River with Mount Olympus in the background. A launch ceremony will be held on the following day.

US Mint May 2011 Product Schedule Packed with High Ticket Items

During the month of May 2011, many high ticket numismatic items will be released by the United States Mint. This will include three separate offerings of gold coins, as well as the only platinum coin currently produced by the Mint.

Tomorrow on May 5, the 2011-W Uncirculated Gold Eagle will go on sale. This is the collectible uncirculated version of the popular bullion coin bearing the classic Saint Gaudens Double Eagle obverse design. Each coin is struck in 22 karat gold and contains one troy ounce of gold. The US Mint has not issued this version of the coin since 2008. The offering was delayed and eventually canceled for each of the past two years, as the US Mint struggled to meet bullion demand.

On the same date, the Eliza Johnson First Spouse Gold Coins will be released. This is the latest issue in the ongoing series featuring the spouses of the former Presidents of the United States. These coins are struck in 24 karat gold, contain one-half ounce of gold content, and are available in proof or uncirculated versions.

A few weeks later on May 19, sales of the 2011-W Proof Gold Buffalo coin will begin. This one ounce 24 karat gold coin features the classic obverse and reverse designs of James Earle Fraser's Buffalo Nickel. The proof Gold Buffalo has been released each year since 2006 and remains a favorite of many collectors.

To finish the month, on May 26, the 2011-W Proof Platinum Eagle is scheduled to be released. This coin is struck in .9995 purity and contains one troy ounce of platinum. For the past two years, the reverse designs have highlighted the core concepts of democracy as stated in the Preamble of the Constitution. This year's design will portray the concept "To Insure Domestic Tranquility". The final reverse design has not yet been announced, but one of the leading candidates appears above.

Pricing for each of the gold and platinum products will be determined based on the average market price of the metals in the week leading up to the release.

The month of April 2011 will see several eagerly awaited numismatic product releases from the United States Mint. This includes the 2011 Proof Gold Eagles and the first of the numismatic versions of the 2010 America the Beautiful 5 oz. Silver Bullion Coins. A number of major coin shows will also be held.

The month starts with the Whitman Coin & Collectibles Expo, which has now just concluded. Other shows include the Chicago International Coin Fair and Santa Clara Coin, Stamp & Collectibles Expo at mid-month, and the CSNS convention held near the close of the month.

United States Mint product releases will include 2011 sets containing the America the Beautiful Quarters, as well as the bags and rolls for seventh issue of the series featuring Glacier National Park. The 2011 Proof Gold Eagles will go on sale April 21. It is expected that the coins will be available in individual one ounce, one-half ounce, one-quarter ounce, and one-tenth ounce options, in addition to a complete 4 coin set.

On April 28, the collectible version of the Hot Springs ATB Silver Bullion Coin has been scheduled for release. According to statements from the US Mint, these eagerly awaited numismatic versions of the bullion series were struck during 2010, with a mintage of 27,000 per design. The coins will include the "P" mint mark and carry a special finish created through a vapor blasting technique. Pricing and ordering limit information has still not been provided.

Coin collecting events during the month of March 2011 will include the ANA National Money show held in Sacramento and the Whitman Coin & Collectibles Expo held in Baltimore. The two major coin grading companies PCGS and NGC will be attendance for on-site grading. An international numismatic fair will also be held in Germany.

The 2011 Native American Dollar will receive some attention this month. An official launch ceremony is planned for March 25, after two precious cancellations due to snow. A few days later, the US Mint will begin sales of numismatic rolls for collectors. The $1 coin highlights the Wampanoag Treaty of 1621 with a depiction of the hands of the Massasoit of the Great Wampanoag Nation and Governor John Carver exchanging the ceremonial peace pipe.

Other US Mint releases include the 2011 America the Beautiful Quarter Proof Sets, in clad or 90% silver compositions. These coins have previously been released with the full annual sets available for sale since January. Not currently scheduled, but possibly released during March is the Eliza Johnson First Spouse Gold Coin. This one-half ounce 24 karat gold coin will feature the wife of the 17th President of the United States.

Febraury 2011 Coin Collecting Calendar

The month of February 2011 will start with the Long Beach Coin & Collectibles Expo. There will be more than 1,000 dealers buying and selling rare coins, paper money, stamps, and other collectibles. Coin grading companies PCGS and NGC will be available for on-site grading.

The 17th issue in the ongoing Presidential Dollars series will be released this month. A launch ceremony will be held at the Andrew Johnson National Historical Site in Greeneville, Tennessee, with numismatic rolls available from the United States Mint later in the month. The coins will also be issued for general circulation. The special ordering period during which financial institutions can order unmixed quantities of the new design runs from January 27- March 3.

Several US Mint numismatic products will make their debut this month. Early in the the month, the 2011 Mint Set will be released. This set will feature coins with a brilliant finish, which is a change from the satin finish used in recent years. The 2011 Kennedy Half Dollar bags and rolls will be available starting February 15, 2011. This denomination is not issued for circulation, but only available through numismatic offerings.

To finish the month, the 2011 Medal of Honor Commemorative Coins will go on sale. This is one of two commemorative coin programs for this year. It features $5 gold coins and silver dollars to mark the 150th anniversary of the Medal of Honor and recognize and celebrate its recipients.

The schedule is lighter for the final month of the year, but some significant events in coins and coin collecting will take place during December 2010.

The United States Mint will begin sales for the final numismatic products of the year, which all incorporate coins or medals featuring Abraham or Mary Todd Lincoln. The latest release of the First Spouse Gold Coins series honoring Mary Todd Lincoln was released on December 2. On the same date, the accompanying bronze medal and annual bronze medal set were also made available. Near the end of the month, the American Presidency $1 Coin Cover and Presidential $1 Coin & First Spouse Medal Set including the Lincoln Dollar will be released.

The scheduled close of sales for one of this year's commemorative coin programs will take place on December 13, 2010 at 5:00 PM. The silver dollars issued to honor American Veterans Disabled for Life have sold about 260,000 out of the 350,000 maximum authorized mintage so far. How many more will be sold in the final days?

On December 6, the US Mint was supposed to release the eagerly awaited America the Beautiful 5 ounce silver coins, however the launch of the new program has been delayed. At the current time, it is not yet known when the coins will be released or how they will be distributed.

The following events related to coins and coin collecting will take place during the month of November 2010. The schedule for the month is packed with three different coin shows, two coin launch ceremonies hosted by the US Mint, and a flurry of new US Mint products.

The month begins with the Whitman Coin & Collectibles Expo held in Baltimore, Maryland. Grading firms PCGS and NGC will both be available at the show for on-site grading. The official auction for the show will be held by Bowers and Merena. Later in the month, the Santa Clara Coin Expo will be held in California with an official auction from Teletrade.

The circulation release dates for the final issues of the this year for the America the Beautiful Quarters Program and Presidential Dollar Program will take place this month. The Abraham Lincoln Dollar is expected to generate some attention for the dollar coin series, with a launch ceremony planned at President Lincoln's Cottage.

United States Mint product releases will be highlighted by the 2010 Proof Silver Eagle. Last year the popular collector offering was canceled, adding some pent up demand an enthusiasm for this year's offering. Three new product types for the America the Beautiful Quarters Program will also be released during the month.
