The Royal Canadian Mint has issued a series of presentation and Mint sets offering a convenient opportunity to give or receive something memorable. Included in each Mint set are the five most common currently circulating coins in Canada, plus a special dollar coin struck with appropriate reverse designs for a variety of gift-giving occasions.
Special designs for birthdays, new baby arrivals, weddings, anniversaries, and graduations are included in specially presented folders that include the current bi-metallic $2 coin, as well as BU coins carrying denominations of 50 cents, 25 cents, 10 cents, and 5 cents.
Birthday – The design includes the all-important elements of a happy birthday, including a birthday cupcake with candle, a party hat, and a present.
Newborn – This design includes those familiar baby building blocks with the first three letters of the alphabet.
Wedding – The wedding coin includes a well-known symbol of the big day — wedding bells — tied together with a single ribbon and surrounded with hearts.
Anniversaries / Graduations – The design for this coin includes the much-loved Canadian maple leaf, symbol of Canada’s great outdoors. A sprig of three leaves is seen on the reverse.
Christmas 2016 – A design has been unveiled which includes a sprig of holly and berries along with a pine cone; this set will most likely be available toward the end of 2016.
The five one-dollar reverse side designs included in the special gift giving sets are designed by Joel Kimmel. The obverse side on all the coins included in the sets includes the effigy of HM Queen Elizabeth II, designed by Susanna Blunt and used on all Canadian circulation issues and many commemorative coins since 2002.
