The Royal Canadian Mint have released their latest collector silver coin which highlights the Lunar New Year’s sign of the Dog for 2018. The Lunar zodiac runs in a cycle of 12 years; the next Lunar New Year begins on the 16th February 2018 and concludes on the 4th February 2019. If you were born in the years 1922, 1934, 1946, 1958, 1970, 1982, 1994, or 2006, you may possess the personality traits associated with the Dog.
The 2018-dated coin is designed by Canadian artist Aries Cheung, who captures the Dog’s warmth, loyalty, and loving devotion. The reverse design shows a stylised depiction of a dog leaping with playful energy over the Chinese character meaning “dog.” Behind the dog are a rainbow and auspicious clouds. The cloud’s swirling contours are echoed in the dog’s fur to symbolise the bestowing of good fortune upon those born under this zodiac sign.
The coin’s obverse includes the effigy of HM Queen Elizabeth II created by Susanna Blunt seen on all circulation as well as many Canadian collector and commemorative coins from 2003 to present.
