The Royal Canadian Mint has released the 2016 Maple Leaf Forever Coin, which is composed of an ounce of 99.95% platinum and is available for $2,999.95 CAD. The coin’s Reverse Proof finish is enhanced with selective gold plating that highlights the detailed leaves depicted in the reverse design. Only 250 units of this issue will be sold.
The coin’s reverse was designed by Lilyane Coulombe and features renderings of three different kinds of maple leaves: the red maple leaf is depicted on the left in pink gold, the silver maple appears in the center, engraved in platinum, and the sugar maple is placed on the right in yellow gold. Inscribed on this side of the coin is CANADA, 9995 PLATINUM 1 OZ PLATINE, and 2016.
The obverse features Susanna Blunt’s portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, with the inscriptions ELIZABETH II, D.G. REGINA, and the coin’s monetary denomination, 300 DOLLARS placed along the rim.
