The Breast Cancer Awareness 2018 Proof $5 Gold Coin (product code 18CE) will be available for purchase at the Mint’s website March 15 at noon. The coin is part of the Mint’s Breast Cancer Awareness Commemorative Coin Program, which uses funds generated through the sale of related coins to benefit the efforts of the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. There is no product limit for the coin, but there is currently a household order limit of one, and a mintage limit of 50,000 across all products. The coin possesses a reeded edge and bears the “W” mint mark of the West Point Mint as well. Despite being primarily gold in composition, the appearance of the coin is that of rose gold due to the additional presence of copper and balance zinc in its composition as well.
The obverse features two women: One older with her hands against her chest, and one younger with a raised fist. A prominent butterfly is seen flying above the two women as well. Inscriptions include LIBERTY, 2018, and IN GOD WE TRUST.
The reverse features a tiger swallowtail butterfly, which is often considered a symbol of hope. Inscriptions include UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, FIVE DOLLARS, E PLURIBUS UNUM, and BREAST CANCER AWARENESS.
Each coin is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity. From March 15 to April 16, the coins will be sold for their introductory price rather than regular price, after which they will be sold for the regular price.
