The United States Mint has announced the year end ordering policy for 2014-dated gold and silver bullion coins as well as the on-sale dates for upcoming 2015-dated bullion coins. The announcement covered the American Silver Eagle, American Gold Eagle, and American Gold Buffalo bullion coins.
Production for both the 2014-dated Gold Eagle and Gold Buffalo coins has been completed. These coins will remain on sale to authorized purchasers until all inventories have been depleted. The Mint does not anticipate having a remaining balance of 2014-dated Gold Eagle fractional weight coins to carry over into the following year.
The Mint will begin sales of the 2015-dated Gold Eagle and Gold Buffalo bullion coins to authorized purchasers on Monday, January 5, 2015. This will include the fractional weight Gold Eagle coins in the standard 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, and 1/10 oz weights. The Mint plans to have sufficient quantities of all coins available so the initial release will not be subject to allocation.
If the Mint has a remaining balance of one ounce 2014-dated Gold Eagles, these coins will be issued on a fixed ratio basis with the 2015-dated coins beginning with orders placed on Tuesday, January 20, 2015. Based on current inventory and demand, the Mint does not anticipate having a large balance of one ounce sized 2014-dated coins remaining.
The Mint is current transitioning American Silver Eagle bullion coin production from 2014-dated coins to 2015-dated coins. Sales for the 2014-dated coins will continue under allocation until inventory is depleted. Based on current demand, the Mint anticipates having enough coins to offer allocations through the week of December 15.
The Mint will begin sales of the 2015-dated American Silver Eagle bullion coins to authorized purchasers starting on Monday, January 12, 2015. The coins will be sold under the Mint’s allocation program, which rations the available supply amongst authorized purchasers. The program is used during times when the available supply of coins is less than the anticipated demand. Silver Eagles have been subject to allocation since November 17, 2014.
