The Mint of Austria has launched their fifth coin in this innovative and cleverly designed series entitled “The Language of Flowers,” which features a particular flower that has its own special meaning when exchanged as a memento or gift. The latest flower featured is the chamomile, signifying “strength in difficult situations” and “energy in adversity.”
As with all the coins in “The Language of Flowers” series, each is designed by Kathrin Kuntner and Rebecca Wilding and features an actual imprint of real flowers on the reverse side. Faithful to the tiniest detail, they are pressed using a special technique that captures them in their natural state. Next to the detailed depiction of the chamomile flowers in bloom is an ornamental side image of chamomiles shown on the right half, which is stylishly printed in colour.
On the coin’s obverse, chamomile flowers adorn the hair of a determined-looking young woman who symbolises vitality. On her shoulder sits a phoenix, a mythical bird that has stood for renewal and rebirth since ancient times. Beyond her, the silhouette of a spear is visible. The denomination of 10 EURO and the country REPUBLIK OSTERREICH, along with the year of issue 2023, are also included in the design and along the upper and lower edge.

Hi Michael,
Newly released 20 Euro Vihorlat Protected Landscape Area silver proof coin has quickly disappeared from most e-commerce sites including Kremnica eshop…
Obverse and Reverse are so nicely done. Although I might be mistaken however I also sense this may be the last in the series of 20 euro coins as I don’t see a 20 euro coin in their next year numismatic plan..that might have also caused collectors to jump on this release. Who knows !!!
Hello Mahesh,
I hope that isn’t the case, but I have put the question to a contact at the Austrian Mint who will know if these are the last of the 20 Euro silver coins – I will post something here when I find out.
Hello Mahesh,
I now have it on good authority that new €20 silver coins are planned for 2024 with the conclusion of the Language of Flowers series –
In 2024, the Austrian town of Bad Ischl is European Capital of Culture, together with 22 other towns in the country’s Salzkammergut region. To mark this momentous occasion, The Austrian Mint are launching The White Gold of Hallstatt in February 2024, a three-piece 20 euro silver series that focuses on the famous town of Hallstatt’s fascinating ancient history.
We will of course publish articles about these coins in more detail when they become available… watch this space.!
Hi Michael,
My bad, I should have mentioned…I was referring to newly released Slovakia 20 euro coin – Vihorlat Protected Landscape Area silver proof coin and he excitement it is creating among the collector community, making it disappear quickly from e-shops !!!
Your misunderstanding is understandable since I replied to an Austrain coin post …
Cheers
Hello Mahesh,
Not to worry, I would also be surprised if Slovakia didn’t release additional €20 silver coins going forward as these larger size coins seem to be very popular with dedicated collectors.
If I run into a representative of the Kremnica Mint at next year’s World Money Fair, I will ask about this.
Sure , but important thing that I wish to accentuate is how quickly they got snapped by the collectors…amazing !
In the age, where world mints are trying woo clients by minting all kind of coins – dome shaped, colored, holograms, glass, multi finish, etc…coins such as this one reminds us that there is so scope and hope for authenticity
Hello Mahesh,
If Kremnica are smart, and I hope they are – they too will have paid attention to the fact their latest €20 silver large size coins were sold in so short a time. I do hope they will continue with the €20 range.
I personally believe there is no substitute for the traditional crown coin with a beautiful design, popular theme and exceptional production. There are indeed plenty of novelty coins on the market, they do fulfil their purpose with younger collectors – and we NEED younger collectors. The industry also needs exposure in mainstream media which dome-shaped coins for instance can achieve.
Their sale also shows us that everyone’s collection is unique and of course valuable in terms of investment and the time & care taken to amass over the years.
