The Perth Mint of Australia has started accepting orders for a new gilded edition of the 2013 Australian Silver Koala. The design featuring the iconic Australian marsupial is struck in 1 troy ounce of 99.9% pure silver and gilded in 24 karat gold.
The reverse design of the coin by Tom Vaughan features an adult koala sitting in the fork of a eucalyptus tree. Inscriptions read “Australian Koala” and “2013 1 oz 999 Silver”. The Perth Mint’s “P” mint mark also appears. The koala is gilded in 24 karat gold adding a unique accent. The obverse features the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Queen Elizabeth II with inscriptions “Elizabeth II”, “Australia”, and “1 Dollar”.
Bullion versions of the 2013 Silver Koala were released earlier this year in 1 kilo, 10 ounce, 1 ounce, and 1/2 ounce sizes.
The gilded edition of the coin is housed in a display case and illustrated shipper with a numbered certificate of authenticity. The coin is subject to a limited worldwide mintage of 10,000 pieces.
