The Perth Mint has issued the 2011 gilded edition of the Australian Silver Koala. The one ounce .999 fine silver coin features the design highlighted in 24 karat gold.
The reverse design for this year’s Silver Koala depicts a mature and juvenile koala resting in the fork of a eucalyptus tree. Inscriptions include “Australian Koala”, “2011 1 oz 999 Silver” and the “P” mint mark. On the obverse is the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of H.M Queen Elizabeth II and the legal tender denomination.
The koala is an internationally recognized symbol of Australia. The Perth Mint began the series of Silver Koalas in 2007 and has featured a different depiction of the arboreal marsupial for each year of issue.
The gilded edition of the 2011 Silver Koala is limited to a worldwide mintage of 10,000 coins. Each comes in a display case with illustrated box shipper and numbered certificate of authenticity. Coins can be purchased online from the Perth Mint.
