The Perth Mint has released a 1 kilogram sized 2012 Australian Koala Silver Proof Coin. Struck in 99.9% pure silver to proof quality, the issue has an extremely limited mintage of 500 pieces.
The reverse design of the coin depicts an image of a sleepy koala resting on the branch of a eucalyptus tree. Inscriptions include “Australian Koala” and “2012 1 Kilo 999 Silver”, along with the Perth Mint’s “P” mint mark. The obverse features the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II by Ian Rank-Broadley with the legal tender denomination of “30 Dollars”.
The Perth Mint has previously released bullion versions of the 2012 Silver Koala featuring the same design. These bullion coins are available 1 kilo, 10 ounce, 1 ounce, and 1/2 ounce sizes with no mintage limits.
The 1 kilo silver proof coin has a diameter of 100.60 mm and thickness of 14.60 mm. The weight is 1,001.002 grams or 32.151 troy ounces. Each coin is housed in a presentation case with a customized shipper and numbered certificate of authenticity. No more than 500 of these coins will be released.
