The Perth Mint has released the 2012 Australian Koala Gold Proof Coins, which feature a sleepy Koala design. The coins are available in limited mintages across four different sizes, with the 1 ounce coin produced in special high relief.
Struck in 99.99% pure gold, each proof coin depicts an adult koala sleeping on the branch of a eucalyptus tree. The obverse features the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Queen Elizabeth II. This reverse design by Aleysha Howarth has also been used for the 2012 Silver Koala bullion coins, one kilo coin, one-tenth ounce coin, and a special gilded edition.
The four different sizes available for the gold proof series include a 2 ounce coin with a mintage limit of 250 pieces, a high relief 1 ounce coin limited to 2,000, a 1/10 ounce coin limited to 5,000, and a 1/25 ounce coin limited to 15,000. The specifications and monetary denomination for each coin are included below.
