The Treasury of the Ascension Islands have announced the issue of a commemorative coin to mark the wedding of HRH Prince William and Miss Catherine Middleton.
Struck by the Pobjoy Mint in the United Kingdom, the coin with a denomination of two pounds portrays the royal couple in cameo facing left with Westminster Abbey in the backdrop along with the date of their wedding, the 29th April 2011. The obverse depicts the recognized and familiar portrait of HM Queen Elizabeth II by Ian Rank-Broadley.
The coin will be struck in both sterling silver and cupro-nickel with the silver coin being offered in proof quality with a weight of 28.2 grams and a diameter of 38.6 mm. The total mintage for the proof coin will be 10,000 examples.
