The United States Mint’s American Gold and Silver Eagle bullion coins experienced slower sales in the past month. Year to date sales for both bullion coin offerings trail the levels of the year ago period.
During the month of April 2015, Silver Eagle sales reached 2,851,500 ounces. This figure was down from the prior month when sales had reached 3,519,000 ounces and also down from the year ago period when monthly sales had reached the lofty level of 4,590,500 ounces.
For the year to date, Silver Eagle sales are at 14,922,500 ounces. This figure is down by 19.2% compared to the year ago period when sales had reached 18,469,500 ounces.

During April 2015, American Gold Eagle bullion sales reached 29,500 ounces across the four different sizes. The top seller by unit volume was the one-tenth ounce sized coin, while the top seller by weight was the one ounce coin. The latest monthly figure trails the previous month when sales were 46,500 ounces and also the year ago period when sales were 38,500 ounces.
For the year to date, Gold Eagle sales have now reached 175,500 ounces. This is down by a modest 3.6% compared to the year ago period.
During the month, the US Mint also recorded sales of 10,000 of the one ounce 24 karat American Gold Buffalo bullion coins.
Sales opened for the latest design of the America the Beautiful 5 Ounce Silver Bullion Coin featuring Kisatchie National Forest. The design added sales of 30,000 coins, representing 150,000 ounces of silver content.
