The United States Mint has officially announced the availability of 2010 Proof American Gold Eagle coins. Sales will begin on October 7, 210 at 12:00 Noon ET.
Proof Gold Eagles are collectible versions of the popular 22 karat gold bullion coins. The US Mint has produced the coins for collectors each year from 1986 to 2008. The offering was canceled for 2009 due to the elevated demand for bullion coins.
By law, the US Mint must produce American Gold Eagle bullion coins in quantities sufficient to meet public demand, however no law mandates the production of the collector versions of the coins. This year, the US Mint has managed to fulfill public demand for bullion coins, clearing the way for the proof coin offering.
The 2010 Proof Gold Eagles will be available in four different individual sizes, including one ounce, one half ounce, one quarter ounce, and one tenth ounce coins. A 4 Coin Set will also be available containing one of each coin. Maximum product limits have been applied to each option. The maximum individual and set limits also create mintage limits.
