American Buffalo Gold Proof Coin Sales Open Strong

The United States Mint has released weekly sales figures for the period ending November 1, 2009. The highlight of the report is the debut of the 2009 American Gold Buffalo Proof Coin, which went on sale October 29, 2009.

The US Mint received orders for 19,468 of the one ounce 2009 Proof Gold Buffalo coins in the opening few days. This total already approaches the total sales of 19,591 coins for the one ounce 2008 Proof Gold Buffalo. Last year's coin had been available from July 22, 2008 until early December 2008. This year's coin was finally offered last week after a lengthy delay and uncertainty about the status of the product. Pent up demand and unrestricted ordering contributed to the strong opening sales.

The annual proof set and mint set remain steady sellers. The pace of sales for the Virgin Islands Quarter bags and rolls slowed, as these products reach their final weeks of availability.
