On December 23, 2010, the United States Mint began sales of the Presidential Dollar Coin & First Spouse Medal Set featuring Abraham and Mary Todd Lincoln.
The 16th President and his spouse are honored with this compact set, which includes one uncirculated 2010 Abraham Lincoln Presidential Dollar and one Mary Todd Lincoln First Spouse Medal.
The dollar coin features a portrait of Abraham Lincoln on the obverse and the Statue of Liberty on the reverse, as designed and sculpted by Don Everhart. The coin included in the set carries a special satin finish used for the annual uncirculated mint set and certain other collector products. In future years, the satin finish will no longer be used for the annual sets.
The medal features the same design as the Mary Todd Lincoln First Spouse Gold Coin, with some inscriptions removed. A portrait of the First Lady is on the obverse with a scene of her bringing flowers and books to Union soldiers on the reverse. The obverse was designed and sculpted by Phebe Hemphill, and the reverse was designed by Joel Iskowitz and sculpted by Hemphill. The bronze medal has a diameter of 1 5/16 inches.
Both the coin and medal are mounted on a plastic card with illustrations of the President and First Lady on the front and issuance information on the back.
The cost of each set is $11.95. Orders may be placed online at http://catalog.usmint.gov/
