The U.S. Mint has updated its product schedule to include a launch date for two of this year’s most anticipated releases: the 2016 American Liberty Silver Medals. The one-ounce medals will be struck at the San Francisco Mint and West Point Mint, respectively, and will be available for purchase on August 23.
The medals will carry the obverse and reverse designs originally created for the 2016 American Liberty High Relief Gold Coin, released in July of last year.
The obverse features a modern rendition of Liberty created by Justin Kunz and sculpted by Phebe Hemphill. The reverse carries an image of an eagle designed by Paul C. Balin and sculpted by Don Everhart.
The Mint has not yet shared information on the costs, mintage limits, or finishes for these issues. As noted on Mint News Blog, the Mint has yet to provide release dates for other anticipated 2016 products, including the 2016 Ronald Reagan Coin & Chronicles Set, the 2016 American Eagle Silver Proof and Uncirculated Coins, the 2016 Standing Liberty Centennial Gold Coin, the 2016 Walking Liberty Centennial Gold Coin, and the 2016 Limited Edition Silver Proof Set.
More information on the 2016 American Liberty Silver Medals will be posted as it becomes available.
