The design features a detailed depiction of a kangaroo against a sun and its rays in the background. The inscriptions read "Australian Kangaroo" above and "2011 1 oz 999 silver" below, with the "P" mint mark representing the Perth Mint. A portrait of Queen Elizabeth II appears on the obverse with inscriptions "Elizabeth II", "Australia", and the legal tender face value "1 Dollar".
The high relief designs are minted on concave surfaces to ensure optimum flow of metal is achieved.
The coins have a diameter of 32.60 mm and thickness of 6.00 mm. There is one troy ounce of silver content in 99.9% purity. Packaging includes an illustrated shipper with a numbered certificate of authenticity.
